Shamakhi Imamzadeh

This shrine, located in the city of Shamakhi, is believed to be the burial place of Allama Sayyid Muhammad Saleh Mudarris, a descendant of Imam Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him). The building of the shrine was constructed in 1370 and has undergone several restorations and reconstructions over time.

Between 1910 and 1917, the renowned architect Zivar bey Ahmadbeyov carried out another phase of architectural enhancement and redesign of the Shamakhi Imamzadeh. However, just one year later, Armenians burned down the shrine together with the peaceful Muslims who had sought refuge there.

In 1991, the Imamzadeh shrine was restored and returned to public use.
